What to Expect at a Toddler Gymnastics Class

Everything you need to know before your child's first toddler gymnastics class. This class runs about 55 minutes. Children work with the coach without a parent on the training floor. Here is how to prepare, what your child will do, and what you can expect afterward.

Before you come

  • Socks for the training carpet
  • Fitted, comfortable clothes
  • Hair tied back
  • No jewelry

Please use the restroom before class begins.

When you arrive

Follow the arrival details in your confirmed trial message. A parent signs the waiver once during trial setup, before class.

Please stay in the waiting area. You can watch through the observation windows. For a bathroom break or other help, your child walks out to you while the coach stays with the group.

Barefoot or shoes? Socks on the carpet

Every child wears socks on the training carpet.

  • No shoes on the carpet. Put them in the cubby.
  • Leaving the carpet? Put shoes back on.
  • Returning to the carpet? Shoes off and back in the cubby.

Children sit and roll on this carpet, so this helps keep it clean for everyone.

The toddler class, step by step

Four regular blocks in about 55 minutes, from free play to toddler tumbling on the floor: rolls, handstands, and cartwheels. The coach can adjust activities and timing for the children in class.

  1. Free play

    10 min

Your child explores the monkey bars and ball pit with the coach close by.

  2. Warm-up circle

    10 min

A song and guided stretching bring the children together.

  3. Two stations

    30 min

Children rotate through floor skills and the trampoline. The coach shows and spots each move.

  4. Stretch and goodbye circle

    5 min

A calm stretch and song give the class a clear ending.

Two water breaks are part of class.

What parents may see

Some children watch before they join in. The coach keeps a hesitant child with the group and invites them to participate at their own level without forcing them to join. Some children need more than one visit before they join every activity. One visit is an introduction, not a complete measure of progress.

After class, ask the coach how it went. You can ask after any class, and we are glad to answer. Then decide when you are ready.
