First Class
What to Expect at a Level 1 Rhythmic Gymnastics Class
This beginner class is for children age 5 and older. It combines body preparation, apparatus foundations, correction, and repetition in a current one-hour scheduled session.
What children may train
The coach changes the order and emphasis around the athletes in class. These are the stable Level 1 training blocks, not a fixed minute-by-minute promise.
Warm-up and coordination
Jump rope, movement, or another coach-selected activity prepares the body and attention.
Stretching and conditioning
Athletes work on flexibility, core strength, body alignment, and safe preparation.
Foundational body skills
The class practices positions and preparation for balances, leaps, turns, and jumps.
Introductory apparatus work
Rope and other coach-selected apparatus build handling, timing, and coordination.
Repetition or routine work
Athletes repeat corrections and may practice a short sequence when it fits the class plan.
How coaches assess the first class
The coach watches how the athlete follows instructions, moves safely, uses correction, and responds to the training environment.
One visit gives an initial fit check. Readiness becomes clearer through consistent attendance and repeated coached work.
Where Level 1 can lead
Level 1 builds readiness for Level 2, the USA Gymnastics pre-competitive preparation stage. Competitive Development Program levels begin at Level 3.
Advancement is not automatic. The coach reviews repeatable skills, apparatus responsibility, attention, correction use, and training consistency.
